Posterior Tibial Tendonitis

Posterior tibial tendonitis is a condition that has been coming up more frequently on sites in the PodVertise network as the condition does seem to be becoming more common due to the trend towards more minimalist and barefoot running. The posterior tibial muscles does have to work harder in these particular running forms, predisposing to posterior tibial tendonitis if the tissues cannot adapt to that load placed on them. The pain of posterior tibial tendonitis is usually felt either just above or just below the medial malleolus and may extend forward into the arch. Often there is not much swelling. The treatment of posterior tibial tendonitis is to use modalities to deal with the injury and the use of foot orthotic to reduce the load on the tendon.
